Quick Facts
The map above shows Majdanek in present day Poland, near the city of Lublin. This camp existed for 3 years, from 1941 to 1944. It was bitterly cold at this camp, and people who were too weak to work. Mainly jews were kept here. Here, 1.5 million people died. Many people who were here eventually moved to another camp. Majdanek was one of the fist concentration camps to be liberated. The Soviet forces came and the germans surrendered.
This is the Monument at Majdanek. "In a thousand years, this ominous monument will not crumble and will be forever a grim reminder of one of the worst episodes in the history of the world."
